Rice Weevil (Pantry Pest)
Latin Name: Sitophilus oryzae
Appearance
Adult rice weevils measure approximately 4 mm in length and are reddish brown in color.
Their wings feature faint yellow or red patterns. Deep, irregular pits are found behind the heads of these weevils, and their snouts can grow as long as 1 mm.

Maize Weevil
Sitophilus zeamais
1/8- to 3/16-inch long. Larger than rice weevil; adults reach 3-3.5mm in length.
The reddish markings on the wing covers are more clearly defined.
The maize weevil is a small snout beetle averaging about 3/32 inch in length, varying in color from dull red-brown to nearly black with reddish/yellowish spots on its back. It can fly and has a pitted thorax with a smooth central line. Lifecycle involves egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages over a minimum of 30 days. Slightly larger and better flier than rice weevil.
